Babae sa breakwater

When the title crossed my senses,( I was high school back then, active and kicking, reading the daily newspaper and getting insights about the world ) i got stereotyped impressions about this Filipino Movie, I thought this was just another cheap rated-r and nonsense movie, so i did not dare watch it.

5 years later...

Me and my classmates planned have a film-viewing gimmick, so without my intercession, they've rented it "Babae sa breakwater" i couldn't even believe it, i was disgusted.

1 1/2 hours later

I ate all my resentment and pride, it really wrong to judge a movie without first seeing it and I'm ashamed of myself that time and at the same time was amazed about the Movie.

A real cinematic gem

As the quality of Filipino movies deteriorate, there are still those few who can pass my standards, the educated viewers standards. This movie exposes the societal realities of Manila, the poor folks, vagabonds and beggars of the breakwater, the daily scenarios there in every day. This movie was successful in conveying the true colors of the real happenings, the odd realities of beggarship. Together with its most creative direction (a brilliant mind), it
surpassed the standards of a Filipino movie, with twists and turns in the storyline from the start to the end. With magnificent actors who love their arts and sacrificed in the movie
( did professional job) for the sake of bringing quality cinema. With the Lead actress, i cant say anything about her, but she really deserves the awards, the movie deserves awards.

Moses dies; Charlton Heston

Almost every year during Lenten season, I never missed seeing a free cable telecast of the movie "The ten Commandments", a lengthy movie about Moses' freeing of the hebrew slaves out of the bondage of slavery. I really never get tired of seeing this movie over and over again, maybe because there is something in this movie that is special. Upon hearing the news on April 5, 2008 that was Monday, that the lead actor (Moses) , Charlton Heston, dies at the age of 84

I was again saddened, because not only did we lose a classic figure, but we lose a great person.

Who can ever forget his exceptional performance in "the Ten Commandments" and "Benhur"

Set the some standards on the quality of the art of acting, He really has become one of the pillars of cinema and there can never be another like him.

REVIEW:

If there was any band of the 90's whose quality of music influenced much of the youth that time, It was Live. "Lightning crashes" is considered to be their most pristine and biggest hit of their marvelous career. this song is conceived with so much soul and solemnity in line with its exceptional poetry by the frontman Ed Kowalczyk. Ed's soulful and dramatic (baritone-like) voice perfectly blended with the songs melody of sadness, the effect is a total gloom, entrancing and reflective.

This is a really the most unforgettable movie I've ever saw. Its really odd when you watch a movie, then an hour or two later you're just covering your face with a pillow because you don't want somebody to see you crying, i was crying really hard that the pillow became damped of tears of i don't really understand is it of joy or sorrow, I mean there's really nothing wrong in crying, but to cry because you really appreciated and sympathized with a cinematic masterpiece, its really a glorious feeling.

This movie is a real tearjerker i tell you, not only for it has a kind of tragic ending (its not really tragic) but the events evolve or change fast, that you wont even anticipate. you will be astonished by its storyline or plot (wikipedia). This is a tale of two souls trapped in their own individual time 1998 - 2000, through a magic letter post on a house on a lake where they exchange letters beginning from friendship then evolving into a really entrancing love, the task is theirs for them to unite with time as their wall. you will be surprised in the flow of the story, even me, i have cried hard for this movie. of all the bag of movies Ive seen, this really hit the spot of my emotional side.

I am really impressed on this cinematic gem, it made my morning not so good, not to bad either.
I like the rural setting of this indie? (is it?) it adds the gloomy effect of it. i like the rawness of its story, as it depicts some rural realities bringing the end of stereotypings of cinema. the actors are well rehearsed and contributed much to the success of this film. I like the lighting, i think its very natural. this movie is unique in all aspects from the story to the details presented. if you are a movie lover. you must wacth this.

Plot:

Tuli (Filipino for circumcise) is the story of Daisy (Played by Desiree Del Valle) and her life in an isolated Philippine Province. Daisy's father (Played by Bembol Roco) is responsible for the circumcision of almost all the Males in town. Daisy's father is also an abusive drunkard who abuses his wife (Played by Eugene Domingo) and Daisy. Because of this Daisy creates a hatred towards her Father and Men. Daisy's father forces Daisy into a fixed marriage. Daisy doesn't want to marry the Man (Played by Luis Alandy) her Father chose for her. All the while Daisy's best friend (Played by Vanna Garcia) is suffering herself. As is the tradition in this isolated Philippine town Daisy must follow in the footsteps of her Father and become the town's official circumciser. Daisy challenges the status quo and rebels against everything that she hates while a young Man (played by Carlo Aquino) defends her. Tuli is also the story of two best friends who deepen their relationship beyond friendship and a young Man willing to give Daisy everything he's got. In this rite of passage tale Daisy tells you her brutal and painful story.

Rizal

He is indeed the greatest man the Malayan race has ever produced. I would've not realized it myself if i had not took our summer class, I thought the subject will be all the while boring, but i was wrong, how foolish of me to ignore a must know, how foolish of me to be at the start arrogant and hesitant to at least know the facts of Rizal's life? In the end, here i am, avid, has the zeal and heart to be a next Rizal, but i guess i will never be. I just wake up one morning, casting my hands on a Rizal book, then realized i was reading excessively. There are no words to describe how much i admire Rizal, i always relate my state to his state before. To me, the greatest hero, who sacrificed self interest just to emancipate a whole nation against the insolence of Spanish Friars. Suffered greatly, the most versatile person I've ever known. One thing i admire most is his poetry. its the thing we have in common and I'm inspired by him, now i am to make a poem honoring him. He is a thing to be proud of, he is a Filipino, he is my brother.

Panalipdan Youth

Last April 19-22 together with my comrades in the College of Education, Had a conquest in Tantangan, Libas, South Cotabato, In Surmions Farm resort. We are to attend a seminar concerning the environmental issues here in the region and the restoration and protection of patrimony of our heritage.
The seminar was facilitated by a Non-government unit called Panalipdan Youth, Headed and financed by a rich OFW in the state. They are composed of various youths with advocacies that sparked my interests, They condemn corruption and the plunder of foreign investors to our national wealth, And so i was encouraged to be hand in hand with them, fighting for the right.
I see no wrong in their doings and upon joining this group, for Rizal himself is an activists for a noble cause.
I learned many things in the seminar, I saw the painful truth illustrated on graphs, how corruption holds us in a suffocating grip, how the government allows foreign mining industries in our lands, spewing poison that became of our peoples demise, trees of our virgin forests brought single handedly by metal beasts. they the witness of our heroes martyrdom and sacrifices, together with them, our mountains died.
I hope its not yet to late to avoid this mess, i want my children to see our lands still hospitable with its rich resources, with this group, I will fight using this pen. for the change.
